Corrode

I.

We want shiny things,

everyone can admire,

They smile down and

smile up to each one,

A mask put on or

An orange rose that

will last through

December?

II.

Orange roses float

on shallow fountains,

They toss pennies

with the same wishes,

hidden nickels in

purses they agree

to keep,

Pennies corrode as

they grow old and

mask seals on,

Never to take off
