Nothingness

I found myself on the ground at the bottom of the stairs, and beside me were two bodies. Red everywhere. Their eyes were wide open staring out to the nothingness that they now see.

I heard a voice yelling from upstairs talking to someone else it sounded like, though I could not pick up what that person was yelling about. I stood up, closed their eyes, and scanned my surroundings for anything that might help me understand the situation. Suddenly, a body tumbled down the stairs all the way to the bottom where all the other bodies were as well, and when I saw who tumbled down it was a young girl! She was so young! She lifted her head up and saw me, then whispered, “Run…” and her head limped down. Unconscious. I heard a man yelling her name from upstairs though before he could see me, I rushed out the door, and ran down the cemented flat stairs across the front yard.

It was the middle of the night, and I was not sure what time it was nor what day it was, but all I knew was I needed to get away from the horrid place. The cruel place that harmed us. I was running down the suburb streets with my heavy legs that was waking up from that deadly state.

I heard his voice echoing my name, and I felt my legs giving out again though I did everything I could to get away from him by forcing my legs to keep running. My first thought was “where should I go?” I saw a treehouse-like outdoor café where there were young adults studying, catching up with friends, and drinking coffee. I ran over to that place to blend in where he wouldn’t be able to find me.

I entered the café realizing I looked like a mess covered in dirt, in liquid red, and in torn clothes. Nobody looked my way, as if I was invisible or they didn’t care how I looked in my clothes, and they didn’t even question the stains on my clothes. I walked through the café while everyone was minding their own business. I saw a light green booth hidden at the back of the café, so I slumped on to the seat, finally I rested, and I took a breath from the chaos I ran away from. Then, I heard… that voice.
